Cruise Travel Agent Sales Position

 

Hello, my name is Chris Lounder. I am the President and Founder of Cruise Adventure Travel.

Our goal is to find the right candidates to continue to build our exiting company. We have been in operation since 2006 and we aim to continue the trend of tripling our sales year over year. 

 

There are prerequisites to becoming an at home “Cruise Sales Travel Agent” if you don’t have specific cruise sales experience. The first of which is doing Lead Generation for our company for 2-4 weeks. We are looking for our new sales agents to reach the 3000 quote plateau before they can come on as home travel agents. Please also refer to the above link for the Lead Generation audio description, as this is where you’ll start. For our company, we do this because lead generators learn a lot about the cruise industry by doing this, learn the terminology, math, our systems, and it’s a good overview of cruise lines and the product knowledge you’ll need. This also allows a lead generator to make money while they are learning, instead of relying on their own unseasoned cruise sales experience.

Secondly, after completing the lead generation prerequisite, you must go through Cruise Adventure Travel University, and pass a test upon completion of the training. This is about 40 hours of content and video training.  It’s sort of an open book test(sort of speak), so if you participate, you should pass. The important thing is just grasping the materials as they pertain to the industry and our company’s standard operating procedures.

You must possess competence in verbal and written communication, as well as prove that you have some sales ability, and a great positive attitude. You must also be willing to work on a commission only basis as well. We are looking for talent and quality over quantity. We would rather have 5 quality agents, then 20 mediocre agents. The best of the best bring customers back, and don’t have to work as many leads per sale. If you are a talent, then we’d like to speak to you.

First year potential is really dependent up on the individual. For someone putting in their efforts, they should make $25k-50k their first years as a minimum.  Certainly, it could be much higher depending on work ethic and sales techniques applied that are taught and possessed.  Second and third year income could approach or exceed $100k annually. We provide you with the tools to succeed and is up to you to implement them into your daily routine…but, our managers will be there with you in getting you where you need to be, and where you want to be.

We are currently in the slowest quarter of the year(4th quarter), yet we have doubled our numbers year to date over last year in this quarter so far. The slower quarter really allows a new agent to hone their skills and really learn the industry thoroughly to prepare them for the “wave” season that starts right on January 1st  and runs through May. This is right around the corner.

This position has great financial potential, but commission does get paid to you when it comes in. Commission comes in about 1-3 weeks after a final payment has been made on a cruise. The final payment of a cruise is due roughly 60-90 days prior to the cruise.  If you book a cruise that is 6 months out, then you will have to wait on some of that cruise commission a few months; however, bonuses and incentives, as well as insurance commission is paid much quicker(bi-monthly and monthly). Our lead sources allow us to choose dates coming up sooner vs. later and we do just that so our agents are booking cruises that pay asap. We also pay high incentives for the first couple months, so you are getting that quicker up front pay. You can earn 0-$800 weekly in incentives while you are working towards “Expert Cruise Consultant” status(which is reach 50 cabins).

Our pay dates are on the 11th and 26th of each month and includes commission/bonuses earned and received from the previous two weeks.

Our compensation of commission is a sliding scale from 40-45%. This is the highest commission payout in the industry for a legitimate travel agency.  We also do incentives/bonuses weekly and monthly, as well us run other random promotions to win free cruises etc..

If you are personable, a good communicator, have or are willing to learn successful selling techniques, as well as have a desire to please customers, work hard,  and are highly motivated, then position could be for you. This position is exclusively done from home. All you need is high speed internet, a computer, a positive home office working environment, and we provide all the software, phone, and training. All training is done online. There are NO fees in getting started with us. We just ask for patience, as income can take a month or two to really build up. If this is a career move, it could be a really big financially rewarding position, but if you come into this expecting to make 10k your first month, you’ll be disappointed.  To be honest, your first couple months may not pay more than $8 and hour, but you’ll quickly surpass that by a very large margin as commission you have waited on will come in three fold. We do not tell you this to scare you, but we also want to be honest about this so you have realistic expectations for the first month or two.  

Clients come back to us every year, and sometimes many times throughout the year. It’s unlike most sales jobs in that customers do come back to you very frequently, and doing a great job causes these customers will bring you referrals and repeat business. This is the bread and butter of how you will double your income from one year to the next. It will take a few months to also build up your clientel which will translate into a multiplier effect of clients calling you to book, though we do provide you with more leads than you can ever handle and your work ethic will determine your compensation.

The job itself entails answering in bound calls, email leads that come in from the lead generation, following up, and providing top-notch customer service to enhance customer retention. There are no cold calls involved…just follow up calls to customers that have already expressed interest in a cruise vacation.

To reiterate from the ad, this is a full time position, and while we offer flexibility, you will be an employee and will need to commit to 40 hours a week, and one Saturday per month.

 

The shifts we offer are:  9-6, 10-7, 11-8 and even split shifts. All shifts, but the split shift includes an hour lunch.  We are closed on Sundays.
